Very Simple Brief History of Texas

Why do we celebrate Texas Independence Day? Battles were fought to gain and maintain that independence for nine years before becoming the 28th state in 1845.

1845 – Hmmm? Another momentous year to celebrate – and name a tastefully Texas-curated steakhouse after!

So, Mexico won independence from Spain in 1821. Spain had provided Anglo Americans incentives to come to Mexican to help protect the northern border from the French and British. Apache and Comanche Native Americans provided only sparse coverage.

Mexico continued the program to encourage growth. Several large Anglo-American settlements grew up. But there were clashes in culture, disagreements over laws. Slavery became an issue and Mexico City was in chaos.

After many battles, Texas defeated the Mexicans and captured Santa Anna, soldier, politician, and dictator of Mexico. Santa Anna was forced to recognize The Republic of Texas and retreat with his forces south of the Rio Grande. Go Texas!

While it wasn’t totally peaceful, Texas maintained its independence from 1836 to 1845 when it became the 28th State.

Not simple. Not Brief. Maybe even a little sketchy, but good enough history for visitors!

And Then…

Well, and then experienced restaurateurs wanted to celebrate Texas’ rich culture and history. They created a modern steakhouse in south Flower Mound with a totally Texas vibe. And appropriately christened it 1845 Taste Texas!
